West Memphis recognized for first-class promotional efforts

For the second year in a row, the West Memphis Office of Economic Development took home honors from the annual conference of the Southern Economic Development Council. Efforts to boost awareness of the city’s industrial and logistics attributes earned three communication awards during the 2014 conference, held Aug. 3-5 at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis.

The ED office, run by Economic Development Director Ward Wimbish, won an Award of Superior for its interactive website promoting the city’s Arkansas-sanctioned Megasite, one of only two in the state. The site, www.westmemphismegasite.com, was designed by The Marketing Alliance.

The city also won an Award of Merit for a two-minute animation designed to play in display booths during various economic development conferences the ED office sponsors and attends. The animation was created by long-time West Memphis branding partner RedDeluxe.

Finally, Wimbish’s team earned an Award of Excellence for their “Meet the Consultant” follow-up strategy that involves a square foot of chocolate, branded with the message “Save at Least 50A? a Square Foot” and the “Turn to West Memphis logo. The office worked with Gaskill Strategies LLC in Memphis to develop the strategy and accompanying printed pieces.

Wimbish said. ai???Our goal in everything we do is raising awareness across the globe of what West Memphis has to offer businesses that locate here. But the prizes give us extra credibility in the economic development community. Hopefully we can leverage that credibility to tell our story to even more business influencers and decision makers.ai???

Also in 2013, the office took home an Award of Excellence for its Turn to West Memphis smartphone app and an Award of Merit for a video touting the benefits of West Memphis as a logistics hub for Chinese industries. Both the app and the port project website were produced by Memphis branding firm RedDeluxe. The video was produced by Running Pony Productions, also located in Memphis.
