For the third year in a row, the West Memphis Office of Economic Development took home honors from the annual conference of the Southern Economic Development Council. Efforts to boost awareness of the city’s industrial and logistics attributes earned two communication awards at the 2015 conference held July 26-28 in Savannah, GA.
The office submitted one project under the SEDC’s “Thinking Outside the Box” category and netted two awards – the Special Judges Award and an Award of Superior in the Small City Division.
The project was a targeted digital and mobile capaign to drive traffic to the West Memphis booth Critical Commodities Conference held earlier this year in New Orleans.
West Memphis was represented at the conference this year by Jim Jackson, director of the West Memphis Office of Tourism.
Economic Development Director Ward Wimbish says he and Jackson knew they had a strong entry on their hands during the New Orleans event.
“People were so pumped about what we were doing and it didn’t hurt that we gave away a FitBit as part of the campaign,” Wimbish said. “I’m not technical enough to tell you how we sent banner notices promoting our booth to phones and tablets to the hotel zip code and to the zip code of the pre-conference golf tournament. But it worked.”
Branding agency RedDeluxe developed the campaign with Wimbish and his staff. The Memphis-based agency also had a hand in award winning projects from 2013 and 2014. Wimbish’s office took home three awards in 2013 and two in 2014.
