West Memphis “front door” gets makeover with new lighting system

City and business leaders in West Memphis were joined by Arkansas officials on Monday, Nov. 30 to flip the switch on a new lighting system intended to revamp the highway overpass that serves as a gateway to the city.

Designed by architecture firm Looney Ricks Kiss, the West Memphis Gateway Project provides a system of LED lighting at the intersection of Missouri St. and I-40. The LED technology will be programmed to change in appearance according to the season or time of year. The lights have the capacity to transform the underside of the bridge to glow with multiple colors.

The project received a $296,000 grant from the National Scenic Byways Program through the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Dept.
