Area Manufacturing Students Take Top Awards at SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Championship

Eight Mid-South Community College students earned two gold medals, three silver medals, and a bronze medal in the Arkansas SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Championships at Hot Springs on April 17-18. Mike Jones (pictured center), a student in MSCCai??i??s Heavy Truck Diesel Maintenance program, captured first place in the Secondary Diesel Truck competition, and Deborah Brown and Cedric Paxton, both of West Memphis, teamed up for a victory in the Postsecondary TV/Video Production division.

The gold medalists earned the right to compete in the National SkillsUSA Competition in June in Kansas City.

The SkillsUSA Championships is a multimillion dollar event that showcases the best career and technical students in the nation. The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly
evaluating student performance, and to keep training relevant to employersai??i?? needs.
